So this artist has been one of my favorites for the last year or so. Mikey Maramag lives in San Francisco right now is coming down to Sacramento for a show this Friday. I can’t wait to hear him live. Give his stuff a listen!
“Death To Instagram”
My first ever Instagram project is driving me insane!
Alright, I admit the title and the title and caption are both a bit exaggerated, but what blogger doesn’t do that? Allow me to explain; two weeks ago a idea came into my mind and expanded heretofore. I have called it The Alphabetical Project, I basically ascribe a letter to a picture I process externally on my phone and then post it up on Instagram. The idea initially came to me because I was learning the difference between illustration and artwork in school (seemingly mundane; but personally fundamental). I wanted to do more then post up pictures of interesting things I see daily, I wanted to expand the purpose. I wanted to create art, (whether good or bad I didn’t care) as long as it had a meaning which is apparently the main difference between art and illustration. Thanks Professor Craig for the inspiration.
A couple of my friends asked me what it is that I’m doing and I’ve responded to only one of them saying “
Oh it’s a little project of mine, trying to catalogue different scenes in the city and ascribe a letter to them to address the subjectivity of perception.
I’m fine with the description but I feel like I shouldn’t have picked such a broad and obvious topic. But oh well, it’s my first project. The other complaint I have is that I can’t post up anything on Instagram until I’m done with the project, (six more letters..) which is why the project is driving me insane. “Somebody please help me! I can’t post up my daily Instagram pictures which in result is causing me withdrawals! - Thanks for listening this has been my own #whitepeopleproblem”. Anyway, the withdrawals are causing me to hate Instagram. Ever since I posted my first Instagram picture on the blog my blogging productivity rate dropped to 0.005%; coincidence? Hah! Maybe..
The solution: I have none yet, I’ve only written all of this to complain. I guess I can start blogging more and stop blaming Instagram, but that’s harder and not as fun. Ooh, maybe I can blame my professor Craig. I’ll split the blame 30/70, Instagram still gets most of the blame.
Truth is I need to establish an efficient and sustainable way to be able to blog. I have to change the name of the blog, “Randomness Monster” will not cut it. I am also considering into turning it into my sketchbook/ informal portfolio of doodles, rants, music, videos and anything else I happen to make; all original content.
Snap, my post is too long and those (if any at all) who started reading probably left before the halfway mark. Those who endured: congratulations!
I do not hate Instagram, the project I’m working on, nor Craig.
This is probably the most thought provoking piece of writing that I’ve ever seen in a bathroom stall. (Taken with instagram)
I’m in the process of doing a coffee shop marathon in Sacramento [my city (represent!)]. Im trying to find the best, I rank them by the way the shops’ Americano tastes. I use Gowalla and some help from an old friend to guide me through the plethora of mediocre shops. I thought that I was halfway through my list, but it keeps on growing. So far (despite all the hype, which I believe is justifiable) my favorite is Temple Coffee. It’s rated #13 on CNN’s “17 Of The Best Small Coffee Makers” list. Third wave coffee shops FTW! Anyways, I hope to keep you posted on my coffee marathon.
I think I might’ve gone a little overboard with this haha. The “спин бургер” logo was @alekskozak’s idea! ;) (Taken with Instagram at Spin Burger Bar)
Fleet Foxes- White Winter Hymnal. This is where I got the quote from. Thought it was interesting. :)
This is the song I was listening to while I was designing the “We Miss You Spring” poster. I love “The Go! Team” for their hyper upbeat music, it’s quite unique. It fit perfectly into my project’s theme. This is of their latest album titled “Rolling Blackouts”. Anyways, give them a listen and I hope you fall in love with them as much as I did!
While the weather in most of United States is so terrible right now people started referring to it as a “snowpocalypse”, I am thankful I live in Northern California where I have almost nothing to complain about. To be honest though I envy the other part of the country because at least they get to see snow. I want to get through this fake Californian ‘Winter’ and start officially enjoying Spring already.
